Bio:

The fairly normal son of innkeepers raised to fulfill his fathers fascination with magic. His father’s obsession pushed the child to be very pragmatic and coldly logical. The majority of his training was self motivated study from tomes and trinkets obtained from merchants and guided by the occasional mage who visited the inn who would take him as an apprentice for a short time. After some family trouble he has found himself in the service of the Legion of the Jade Lynx over the last couple of years.

(To be fleshed out later.)

  • Appearance/Origins

    • Louis Quentin Sander
  • Is your given name commonly known?
    • Yes
  • Do you have a nickname?
    • Sandman or Quent
  • If yes, how did you get it?
    • A combination of his last name and his normal affinity to flame conjurations and their natural effect on his enemies. Shortened version of his middle name
  • Do you know who your parents are?
    • Yes
  • If yes, what kind of relationship do you have with them?
    • Louis was raised by innkeeper parents from the city of Okhravad. His father Brahm had an ever pressing desire as a child to become a powerful wizard, this dream was placed on Louis to accomplish given Brahm inability to tell his family no to continuing the innkeeping business.
    • They pushed Louis to go to a number of tutors of the arts who passed through the town. He is an only child so they focused most of their parental attention to discipline and chores to further their goals of training him. His family was alloted a bit of money but fell into hard times given the war and was forced into a deal with the Legion of the Jade Lynx which Louis was offered as assurance to this families continued support.
  • What was your childhood like?
    • Extremely structured and rife with strenuous tasks to ‘teach’ him to be a driven person. This turned out to assist him in his early apprenticeship and later military life.
  • Do you know where you were born?
    • Louis was born in Okhravad birthed by a third generation Innkeeping family. In the inn ‘Three bits without a pit’ named for it’s self brewed cherry brandy spirit.
  • Do you know how old you are?
    • 25
  • Many people join mercenary companies to escape their past. Why did you join a mercenary company?
    • To keep the family business afloat from problems with housing visitors due to the rampant war of the past few years.
  • How did you earn living before joining the mercenary company?
    • Worked in the inn as either a server or assisted with book keeping.
  • What is your hair style and hair color?
    • Orange-ish/red hair cut short with long bangs.
  • Do you have any scars? Birthmarks?
    • No and no.
  • Tattoos?
    • He has tattoos of flames going up both arms.
  • If yes, where and how did you get them (except the birthmarks) Do they have any special meaning to you?
    • One of his first lessons, it was an exercise in controlling one’s pain and maintaining concentration.
  • What is the first thing people notice about you?
    • Actually a pretty normal looking guy aside from flaming red hair and arm tattoos.
  • Personality
  • What is your personality like?
    • Louis is disciplined, practical, cold, and logical if the situation calls for it but when he is allowed to receive a little rest and relaxation he becomes a bit more sociable and develops a very witty sense of humor.
  • What are your motivations?
    • To make a name for himself in his mystic practices as well as his military career, he has a suppressed desire for more power and control through he tries to suppress those urges.
  • Do you have any taboos or superstitious beliefs?
    • Yes
  • What are they? What are the consequences of breaking/ignoring them?
    • Never leave a food container empty or it will bring about famine in the household
    • Never pick up a dull coin, it welcomes bad fortune.
    • Standing within a circle wards off evil spirits. (He no longer believes the simplicity of this superstition)
  • Do you have any unique mannerisms or rituals that you perform on regular basis? What are they?
    • He wakes every morning and attempts to have at least an hour of mediation to reflect on the past day and prepare for the one about to pass.
  • What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias? Why are you afraid of them?
    • Disappointment and failure – Louis is extremely anal retentive and must have everything precise and orderly.
    • Lost and alone in the wilderness – Being acclimated to the city and never really exposed to the wilderness he does not like the ideal of the unknown and unbraved wilds of the land
  • How well do you work with others?
    • He is a team player and works to ensure that the members are working in a efficient way
  • What do you do for enjoyment when you have time off?
    • He enjoys time with his fellow Legionnaires usually with a game of chance or strategy in a local tavern.
  • Do you have any vices? What are they?
    • Spirits and alcohol allow him a brief moment where his mind is not attempting perfection.
  • How religious are you?
    • Louis favors philosophy over worship. The random affairs of the deities do not usually govern his normal daily affairs so he leaves them to their own workings.
  • Are there certain things that you refuse to do? Why will you not do them?
    • Any action that he does not understand, if it can be rationalized then he will attempt to perform it to the best of his abilities but he can not prescribe time to an illogical cause/function.
  • In Your Opinion…
  • What do you see your class/role as (such as instead of being a ranger you are a “wilderness scout” or a “stealthy warrior highly skilled with two swords”)?
    • A studied scholar who assists the party with clever tricks and deadly magics.
  • How do you feel about own race?
    • Indifferent
  • Are you prejudiced against any of them? Why?
    • Dwarves – Impatient gruff creatures who do not seem to understand the importance of studying, Supporters of the oppressive empire of Vanasi
    • Fae – Haughty creatures of immortality who have lost touch of the growing world around them
    • Dragonborn – never really met any
  • How do you feel about slavery? Why?
    • A necessary evil needed to perform certain functions within society and a good way to keep prisoners busy.
  • Relationships/Associations
  • Describe three people that are close to you, such as close family, loved ones, or close friends. Who are they? What do they mean to you? Do you know where they are? Are they still alive?
    • Brahm and Vala Sander – Father and Mother. He respects and follows their wishes when he visits them. He also worries about insuring their deal with the Legion continues so the family practice stays afloat. Both are alive and still in Okhravad.
    • Fatima Gelder – Daughter of the horse merchant in Okhravad. She shows promise in the mystical arts though was never formally trained. During Louis’ free days of apprenticeship he would attempt to train her in the basics of magical practices in hopes of forming a Guild of Mages in Okhrvad/ rival the current guild (not sure if the city would have one). She is currently alive and still in Okhravad
    • Maeglin Telemnar – Louis’ last teacher before he joined the ranks of the Legion. Incidentally, he enjoyed Maeglin’s company and teaching even though the man was haughty and self absorbed. Maeglin is a reminder to Louis how losing control of one’s magic/focus can be deadly. Their last training session either Maeglin or Louis lost control of their concentration on a ritual and Maeglin was mortally wounded leaving Louis in the plains around Okhravad alone to find his way back to the city with his wounded unconscious teacher. Unknown if alive or dead and whereabouts.
  • Describe three associates that you know, people that would help you as long as it doesn’t put them in too much danger or people who owe you favors for example. How did you meet them? How much do you trust them? If they owe you favors, how did you gain those favors?
    • Rehn Fletcher – Louis’ recruiter into the Legion and the one who brokered the deal with Brahm making ‘Three bits without a pit’ the usual Inn the Legion of the Jade Lynx used while in Okhravad. He trusts him about as far as he can throw him but would not do anything to ruin the deal between Rehn and his family.
    • Farn Hawker – She is a town hawker with quite a few contacts with the undesirables of Okhravad but usually a pleasant girl to converse with. Louis has hired her for advertisement from time to time and developed a working relationship revolving around her information gathering skills. In exchange for news on the undesirables, he tells her about travelers information that comes through the inns.
    • Wren Gale – He is a local musician and hired muscle/bouncer. Louis’ family has payed for his services from time to time. Louis assists Wren on any nonlinear/complicated non physical problems while Wren provides muscle when needed.
  • Describe three enemies or rivals that you have made. These may be people who simply want you dead, or they might be rivals who just want to best you or swordplay or eating doughnuts. However these are people that will go to great lengths to get in your way. What did you do to cross these people in the first place? How much do you know about them, if anything? Do you even know that you crossed them? What are they capable of (even if your character doesn’t know)?
    • Neigle Greenskin – A barfly and gambler by trade who despises Louis for string of luck with a game of dice. Neigle accused Louis of cheating and cursing his dice which caused an uproar and forced Louis out of the small one horse town to never return given the town’s unexpected fear of the arcane. Neigle and Louis have not bumped paths again but the reunion will not be a peaceable one. Neigle is a half-orc barbarian with quite a few chips on his shoulder and very sensitive about his skin color.
    • The grand Orophi – A traveling magician who does tricks for crowds with a small following in the outskirt towns of Okhrad. His following within Okhravad was spoiled by Louis ruining the ‘tricks’ of his shows and so he does not make as much while traveling through Okhravad as he use to. This was an unintentional act on Louis’ part as he was making side conversations to Fatima about the fake representation of his performance. Louis is unaware of his insult to Orophi.
    • Elensa Telemnar – Daughter of Maeglin and she blames Louis for her father’s demise. Additionally she believes he has stolen her family heirloom, Vahan, to further defoul her father’s good name by allowing a lowly human to be in possession of it. She is currently tracking him and is more than capable of making his life quite unpleasant should she find him. He has no idea of her existence or her current quest to find him.
  • Do you have an animal companion/pet/familiar? How did you acquire your animal companion?
    • Louis has a familiar which is a ferret named Phen. He found him through happenstance while going through the Bazaar and caged up and lonely.
  • Other
  • What is the name of your Legacy Weapon? What meaning does it hold to you? How did you acquire it/how did it come to be? Does it have any history? Do you know what is its history?
    • Vahan – meaning shield. It was the staff of his late mentor Maeglin and given to Louis during his agony filled journey back to Okhravad. Yes, it has a history but Louis does not know much of anything about the staff.
  • What is your theme song?
    • Running out of Ink – BNL
  • Will you use your powers for good or awesome?
    • Louis will use his powers for what makes the most rational sense for good or ill.
  • Write any other information or history relevant to your character.

What if you could not be returned to life the way you were, would you accept an “alternate” new form to return as (a spirit possessing your old suit of armor or an undead just to give two examples)? If you were to accept an “alternate” form, what would be acceptable, or not acceptable.
    • Golem or other magical creation that would serve as a container for his mind.
